Race Report 31/12/19

The annual Jolly Holly Jog took place on Sunday at Ripon, a mainly off road, testing course with a few stretches of tarmac to encourage the road runners in the field!  22 Harriers were among the 794 finishers, with Alan Simpson first home, 86th in 46.05.  Tom Watson, improving all the time came 158th in 51.48, Paul Chapman 205th in 52.87, Clare Tempest 278th in 55.57, Steve Billings 414th in 61.33, Trish Radford 422nd in 61.41, Joanne Hunt, another person steadily improving, 456th in 63.05, Paul Adams 519th in 66.08, Andrea Colls, in a very rare outing, 563rd in 67.27, James Stephenson 571st in 68.38, Molly Mayes 586th in 69.18, Sarah Harrison 588th in 68.44, a discrepancy which arises sometimes when gun time is quicker than chip time, Phillip Craig 608th in 70.45, Linda Bamforth 640th in 73.15, Lianne Robinson 640th in 73.33, and Sue Low, running with Lianne and given the same time.  Naomi Wood came 711th in 77.31, Siobhan Woodland 769th in 84.33, Liz Stephenson 781st in 89.48, Ian Codling 789th in 93.53 and Marian Codling (not last) 790th in 95.26.

At the Fountains Abbey Park Run the previous day, Marian Codling celebrated her 100th Park Run with 15 members, as well as family and friends, among the field of 551.  Stephan Tomaszewski finished 32nd in an excellent 20.11, Esther Harrison 65th in 21.48, Adrian Saunders 66th in PB 21.49, Gary Wilkinson, actually completing his 101st Park Run, 126th in 23.51, Faith Coy 284th in 28.22, Lorraine Hiles 318th in 29.21, Ian Crane 369th in 30.53, Paul Adams 387th in 31.20,young Reuben Coy 399th in PB 31.49, Martyn Coy 400th in 31.51,  Gillian Crane 463rd in 34.27, Oliver Lewis 503rd in PB 36.46, Wendy Bennett 522nd in 38.49, Ian Codling, running with grandson Matthew, 531st in 39.31 and Marian Codling, running with Anna, 540th in 41.23.  Marian’s son, David, daughter Valerie, and grandaughters Isabel and Anna all got PB’s!

A couple of days after Christmas, really intent on starting to move the Christmas excesses, 4 Harriers were among the 200 at the Guisborough Woods Fell Race, Race 5 in the Dave Parry Winter Series.  All had superb results, with Tom Levi coming 11th in 43.26, Josh Cooper 30th in 47.04, Ken Wood 52nd in 50.38 and Esther Harrison 80th in 54.10.

The season begins in earnest on New Year’s Day with Captain Cook’s Fell Race, the first Club Championship race of the year.  Good luck and a Happy New Year to all.
