Race Report 26/03/19

The Dishforth Dash 10k took place on Sunday on a very windy day, causing probelms for runners.  203 finished this flat course, Paul Adams coming 173rd in 59.01 (unusual for Paul to tackle 10k!), Joanne Hunt 177th in 59.40, and Jemma Cropper 199th in 71.14.

Several members were at the lovely setting of Ropner Park for the latest race in the Stockton 5k Winter Tail Race Series, on a fine sunny morning.  Results are not yet to hand, but suffice it to say for now that Tom Levi won the event and Esther Harrison was 3rd lady finisher.  Very many congratulations to both!

At the Fountains Abbey Park Run on a cold, sunny morning, Mike Cropper achieved another PB, coming 18th out of 422 in 19.46, Nigel Morgan 182nd in 27.20, Ian Crane 249th in 29.24, Paul Adams 276th in 30.44, Gillian Crane 294th in 31.47, Jemma Cropper 366th in 35.44, Ian Codling 379th in 37.25, Kerry Morgan 402nd in 42.02 and Marian Codling 403rd in 42.10.

On their travels abroad, Rob and Christine Burn found a Park Run in Hoedspruit, with Rob finishing a very good 8th out of 94 in 23.41 and Christine 50th in 35.57.

Two members were at the inaugural running the previous weekend of the Bilsdale Fell Race, marked AL, with “A” meaning lots of ascent and “L” meaning long!  In total it was 15 miles, with ascents totalling the height of Ben Nevis!  Fortunately, the weather was dry and bright but with a strong headwind for the middle part of the race.  The run started in Seave Green with a lung busting ascent to Round Hill, the high point of the moors. Various climbs and descents took runners past Wainstones, Wharlton Moor and Scugdale, uphill slog to Cock Howe before a final welcome descent to Chop Gate, where cakes and pastries welcomed!

The run was well received by participants, and Josh Cooper finished 37th out of 120 in 2.50.59 and Marc Davies 68th in 3.10.04.

Hello club members and friends of the Thirsk 10 road race. We would just like to provide a brief update to inform everybody that for obvious reasons the Thirsk 10 race will not be held in March 2021 however, we intend to reassess the situation in the Spring with a view to holding the event later in the year subject to national and local restrictions in place at the time. We apologise for the disappointment this will undoubtably cause, however I am sure that everybody appreciates that the Covid 19 Pandemic is a fluid situation with rules and restrictions seemingly changing on a daily basis. We will provide a further update in once we have been able to consider matters. Assuring you of our best intentions at all times, keep running and stay safe. The Thirsk 10 Team.
