Race Report 19/02/19

There was a good turnout of members at the latest NYSD cross country event, (also a club championship race) hosted by Richmond and Zetland at the Old Racecourse.  Conditions underfoot were as good as they could be, even on the long uphill section, to be covered twice in the women’s race and four times for the men!  Even the young members had to cover it once, with U11s running 2k and Mia Bainbridge, in her first club appearance, taking 9.47.  In the U13 race over 2.5k, Florry Wharton took 11.19, Anja Bainbridge 12.18 and Phoebe Yates 13.17.  Congratulations to them all, and thankyou for the wonderful vocal support for the senior racers.  Jack Fisher, as an U17 and running with the women, took 22.05 over 5k.  Well done.

13 club women were among the 109 in the Ladies’ race, with Amber Southern leading the way, 12th in 21.23, Lorraine Hiles 25th in 23.24, Esther Harrison 29th in 24.08, Jill Libby 57th in 27.51, Faith Coy 63rd in 28.20, Tracey Lowther 68th in 28.49, in a sprint finish with Andrea Colls, 69th in 28.50, Alison Butcher 83rd in 30.37, Molly Mayes 86th in 30.58, Christine Burn 96th in 33.54, Margarte Wikeley 106th in 37.58, Liz Stephenson 107th in 38.15 and Marian Codling 109th in 44.22.

Many runners improved their times over previous year, but ALL found it hard going!  Junior girls, men and women’s teams all finished 5th.

Three members were among the 1000 or so at the Harewood Half Marathon, another tough course with 1000 feet of climb, and underfoot conditions again good.  Alan Simpson came 194th in 1.47.55, Kirsty Naylor 505th in 2.04.07 and Rosie Gatenby 829th in 2.23.48.
