Race Report 07/05/19

The Dave Parry Summer Series of fell races got underway last week on a calm, sunny evening.  The ground underfoot was hard following a long, dry spell, for the Gribdale Growler, and the field of 123 enjoyed the course.  Tom Levi, unstoppable just now, was again first club finisher, 4th in 40.46, Matt Jones 42nd in 49.45, Brett Edgeworth 45th in 50.35, Esther Harrison 61st in 52.50, Lorraine Hiles 66th, and 1st F55, in 53.44, Marc Davies 73rd in 54.52, Hilary Coventry 81st, and 2nd F55, in 57.40, Helen Ashworth 94th in 60.21 and Trudy Morrice 97th in 61.59.  Well done to the ladies’ teams, who came 2nd and 4th overall.

This was a walk in the park compared with Gavin Coventry’s achievement the previous week in the Fellsman Race over 61 miles with 11000 ft of ascent, starting at Ingleton and finishing at Grassington.  Gavin took an incredible 23.5 hours – hard to imagine running for the best part of a whole day!  Many congratulations, Gavin.

The much more accessible Kirkbymoorside 10k had a field of 439 at the weekend, and the long uphill start is a test in itself, though a lovely course taking in Fadmoor and Gillamoor is well worth the effort, and a long downhill is the reward at the end!  Alan Simpson finished in 113th place in 45.49, Ian Codling 433rd in 80.50 and Marian Codling 437th in 85.10.

The usual big field at Fountains Abbey Park Run, 445 this week, saw Mike Cropper come 13th in 19.32, Adrian Saunders 50th in 22.21, Jemma Cropper 314th in PB 31.11, Steve Isaac 319th in 31.26 and Paul Adams 320th in 31.27.

Gary Wilkinson was among the 107 at Northallerton, and came 22nd in 23.26.  At Catterick, Phillip Craig was 149th in 34.11 and Liz Stephenson 159th out of 194 in 35.40.
