Race Report 02/01/18

Lorraine Hiles made room for her Christmas lunch by completing the Northallerton Park Run on Christmas morning, 8th out of 52 and 1st lady in 23.22.  Those of us who would have done the Fountains Abbey event on Sat were thwarted as the event, along with several other Park Runs, had to be cancelled because of snow and ice on the course.  As it was, the rest had to wait until New Year’s Eve to get rid of our Christmas excesses, at the popular Jolly Holly Jog 10k at Ripon.  753 completed the very muddy course on a lovely morning with snow all gone, of whom 18 were TSH members. Olivia Mulligan, flying just now, was  first club finisher, 34th in 43.04, and picking up the prize for 1st U30 lady.  Brett Edgeworth came 78th in 46.35, Alan Simpson 197th in 53.07, Stuart Waters 282nd in 56.07, Ian Crane 336th in 57.31, Alan Harman 355th in 58.43, Trish Radford 388th in 60.04, Peter Richardson 397th in 60.45, Malcolm Aitken 459th in 63.16, Jayne Robson 498th in 65.15, Paul Adams 573rd in 68.05, James Stephenson 596th in 69.51, Rachael Robson 597 in 70.49, given the same chip time as Gaye Kirby who was given 603rd place on gun time.  It was good to see Karen Hudson resurrecting her Harriers career after a lapse of several years, and she and Rhean Bradford ran together to come 609th in 71.22 on chip time, though Gillian Crane actually ran a quicker time of 71.12 but was placed 619th by gun time.  Liz Stephenson came 742nd in 90.30.   Four members undertook tough Hardmoors Races on New Year’s Day – the name is “on the tin” – Mike Lowther and Fran Jeffery achieving the same time of 6h 50min on the 30 mile course, an improvement for Fran by 24 minutes on her time last year.  Over the 15 mile course, Tracey Lowther took 3.30 and Phillip Craig 3.43. Congratulations to all on a superb achievement.  The new club championship got under way on New Year’s day with the Captain Cook’s Fell Race but results are not yet to hand.
