Marian’s Weekly Race Round Up – w/c 20/01/14

The York Brass Monkey Half Marathon took place in steady rain this year, which is a definite improvement on last year, when the race had to be cancelled because of snow and ice.  The ever popular race, over a flat course which allows for personal best times, had 1446 finishers, six of them being Thirsk and Sowerby members. Steve Middleton had another wonderful run to come in 33rd in a very good personal best time of 1.17.49, with Paul Atkinson 300th in 1.31.59,  David Fabrega 644th in 1.42.35, Alan Harman 878th in 1.50.32, Sarah Burn 960th in 1.52.39, and Steve Billings, trying to get back into some sort of fitness, 1019th in 1.53.52.

Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers is a welcoming club – come along and give us a try, whether you’re new to running, already run but don’t have a club, or a lapsed runner who keeps thinking of taking it up again!  Club sessions are on Mondays and Wednesdays at Thirsk School at 7 pm, with informal sessions arranged at other times.  For full details, and, of course, information on the popular Thirsk 10 Road Race on March 23rd, have a look at the club’s web-site.

Hello club members and friends of the Thirsk 10 road race. We would just like to provide a brief update to inform everybody that for obvious reasons the Thirsk 10 race will not be held in March 2021 however, we intend to reassess the situation in the Spring with a view to holding the event later in the year subject to national and local restrictions in place at the time. We apologise for the disappointment this will undoubtably cause, however I am sure that everybody appreciates that the Covid 19 Pandemic is a fluid situation with rules and restrictions seemingly changing on a daily basis. We will provide a further update in once we have been able to consider matters. Assuring you of our best intentions at all times, keep running and stay safe. The Thirsk 10 Team.
