Marian’s Weekly Race Report – w/c 27/07/15

The James Herriot 14k Trail Race provided a tough challenge for the 18 Harriers who completed this latest Club Championship event on a fine morning for running, the rain just about holding off untill all runners were in.  With a long uphill climb from Castle Bolton village, over the tops along very stoney tracks and occasional downhills, more climbs, and even some smooth grass in places, this was a test for even the strongest runners.  Bryan Miller continued his excellent form, leading the way in 31st place in 66.01, with Ken Wood 39th in 67.16, just ahead of Pete Wilkin 40th in 67.46, Lorraine Hiles 59th in 71.40, Charlotte Wilton 63rd in 71.56, Graham Robinson 77th in 75.18, Hilary Coventry 84th in 76.48, just pipping guest runner Anne Davies 85th in 76.54, Alan Harman 109th in 79.49, Peter Richardson 112th in 80.26, Marc Davies 115th in 80.59, Helen Ashworth 118th in 81.20, Claire Gillan 137th in 84.54, Duncan Fothergill 163rd in 89.01, Chris Wordsworth 202nd in 97.08, Christine Burn 214th in 102.07, Ian Codling 225th in 110.46 and Marian Codling 239th in 129.00.  The strong Ladies’ Team of Lorraine Hiles, Charlotte Wilton and Hilary Coventry came away with the Team Prize.  Well done!

At the weekly Fountains Abbey 5k Park Run, Martin Cummins was first club finisher, 81st in 25.13, and how lovely to see Nicola Booth back in racing form after illness, coming 104th in her first Park Run in 26.19, followed by husband Steve, 114th in 26.30, Jane Cummins 158th in 29.54, the ever improving Linda Bamforth 168th in a PB 30.39, Gillian Crane 195th in 33.26 and Tracy Holden 218th in 36.43.
The good thing about Park Runs is that you can search them out wherever you are, and Nigel Morgan took part in the Keswick event out and back along an old railway line alongside the river.  He finished 47th out of 129 in a very creditable 25.28.

About three dozen Harriers were among the 70 or so runners able to help with testing out the newest Park Run, at Northallerton, a pleasant, flat course over 3 laps on fields and tracks, which comes on-stream at the weekend.  Even with a steady fine rain throughout, this was an enjoyable run which is destined to become very popular.
