Marian’s Race Report – w/c 12/01/15

The NYSD Cross Country race at Summerhill, Hartlepool, at the weekend was over a tough but interesting course – a real tester, especially for members who hadn’t done a cross country before, and for Hannah for whom it was her first ever race!  The wild, cold wind didn’t help, but Joshua Fothergill ran well in the U15 boys race to finish 11th in 14.46.  Hilary Coventry was first club finisher in the 4.2km ladies’ race in 22nd place, 21.48 with Claire Gillan, living up to her recent award of most improved lady, 33rd in 23.25,  Andrea Almack 57th in 27.59,  Christine Burn 58th in 28.18,  Jane Cummins 59th in 28.27,  Alison Butcher 60th in 29.12,  Bev Davies 64th in 31.36,  Gillian Crane 65th in 31.52,  Hannah Pollit 66th in 32.26,  Marian Codling 68th in 36.12 and determined Liz Stephenson 69th in 38.38. Ian Codling ran with the older men over this course and took 30.26 minutes. Cameron Choules was the first of the male members to finish, over a course which was twice as long, 31st in 36.55,  Stephan Tomszewski 48th in 38.48,  Ken Wood 70th in 41.28,  Bryan Miller 80th in 42.39, a full 4 minutes quicker than over the same course last year,  Graham Robinson 82nd in 42.49, Rob Lickley 88th in 43.27,  Martin Cummins 105th in 46.21,  Marc Davies 109th in 47.05,  Andrew Butcher 115th in 48.50 and Duncan Fothergill 120th in 49.59. This was the 2nd of this year’s club championship races with a very good turnout.

At the Fountains Abbey Park Run on Saturday, Dan Holdsworth was again impressive finishing 3rd in 18.22, with Olivia Mulligan, taking advantage of a brief spell at home during holidays, 14th, and 3rd lady, in 21.28,  Martin Cummins 48th in 24.36,  Louise Knowles 70th in a new personal best 25.45,  Phillip Craig in his first Park Run, 122nd in 29.42 and Jane Cummins 130th in 30.21.  It is hoped for good club support at this week’s race when Martin and Jane Cummins hope to achieve their 100th Park Run.
