Marc Davies at Acklam XC 061013 – race report

The first Cross Country race of the season, and our first (Bev and Marc Davies).
Arriving at Aklam looking for fellow Thirsk & Sowerby Harriers on an unseasonably warm day we found just two other men and three ladies – meaning at least a ladies team would be made.

The racing was arduous and seemed far harder than the road runs and evening league fixtures. The women race was a two-lapper at 3.5miles and the men’s virtually 4 laps at 6.2miles. Results were :-

Pat Kirby 32nd in 28:06, Carolyn Morrison 35th in 28:33 Christine Burn 63rd in 34:45 and Bev Davies 69th in 41:12 – there were 70 finishers. The team were 9th.
Stephan Tomaszewski 33rd in 44:14, Rob Burn 59th in 47:01 and finally Marc Davies 97th in 54:31 – there were 103 finishers.
Bev and I were consistent as nearly last in both ladies and gents races and definitely ‘enjoyed’ very hard racing, but it’s the taking part that’s important.

I was given a Superman T-shirt for a recent birthday which I wore afterwards…the size fitted, the sentiment perhaps not.

Hello club members and friends of the Thirsk 10 road race. We would just like to provide a brief update to inform everybody that for obvious reasons the Thirsk 10 race will not be held in March 2021 however, we intend to reassess the situation in the Spring with a view to holding the event later in the year subject to national and local restrictions in place at the time. We apologise for the disappointment this will undoubtably cause, however I am sure that everybody appreciates that the Covid 19 Pandemic is a fluid situation with rules and restrictions seemingly changing on a daily basis. We will provide a further update in once we have been able to consider matters. Assuring you of our best intentions at all times, keep running and stay safe. The Thirsk 10 Team.
