Virgin London Marathon Preparation – 6th March by David Fabrega

Hi everyone!

It has been two months since I started (seriously) training for the LVM and it’s only one month till the day of the marathon! So everything is starting to get very exciting and I must admit that I am really looking forward to going down to London. I have already made all the bookings (train & hotel) and I have planned to stay some extra days in the city to do a bit of sightseeing so everything is looking great.

The last three weeks I have been really busy with the training and apart from the planned training I also did an additional long run (about 24 miles). The purpose of this long run session was to see how I felt and how my legs reacted to the long distance. The result was quite good and I was able to run the 24 miles slightly over my target time for the marathon day. However, if I take into account the fact that on the race day normally your performance is better and that I still have a month of training sessions ahead, it’s looking good.

The training runs I did during the last three weeks are:

• 15th Feb – 9 miles
• 16th Feb – 24 miles
• 20th Feb – 3 miles
• 22th Feb – 9 miles
• 23th Feb – 17 miles
• 28th Feb – 6 miles
• 2nd Mar – 9 miles
• 6th Mar – 9 miles

On the third of March I started on the ‘Race Simulation’ stage, the next stage in the training plan. During this phase I start the practical training for the race. I will try to complete two long runs (at least 24 miles each) at the same pace rate that I would like to run the LVM.
I have to say that this is the first time that I have done all the planned trainings for a race and I have kept fully disciplined, maybe it is because I am writing these blog entries and I would feel guilty if I didn’t do the homework hahahaha! I don’t know… anyway… Also it is the first time that I have written a blog. I hope that you enjoy it and that it may encourage some people to train for the marathon next year or for any other challenge! because in the end, what matters is doing something that makes us feel good and happy! And running really does that for me.

So that is all for today, I will keep training harder than ever in the last stage of my training. Keep up the training!
