Rob’s weekly blog and training update w/c 26/03/18

CHAMPIONSHIP RACE – Lightwater Valley 10k Challenge – Start time: 11.30am
multi-terrain race that takes you around the Lightwater Valley Theme Park and into the surrounding countryside. It is a combination of flat and undulating pathways, following countryside gravel tracks and off-road running. It could be muddy! This course has a bit of everything and with the recent wet weather I’m sure you will need footwear with some tread on. Don’t look for a pb so take it easy and use it as a strong run and remember to keep a little in reserve for the 5k the next morning.

Registration, number collection open at 9.30am closes at 11.10am- PROMPT

CHAMPIONSHIP RACE – Ropner Park 5k Trail Race- Start time: 10:00am. Ropner Park, Hartburn Lane, Stockton-onTees, TS18 4EF
More of a park run, this is a scenic race, with a bandstand, fountain and a lake to run around (watch out for the swans, they sometimes like to join in)! This is a flat and fast course with some small inclines. Good for a PB, but still not an easy run! Don’t forget your club vests and enjoy the run.
Registration from 09:00 (café)

Cost: £7 if unaffiliated, £5 if a member of a club. Please note: that full payment must be paid at registration (cash only).

7pm Thirsk school. This is the last indoor session this winter, so it is bound to be a hard one. Sonja was hinting we would be doing something like last week which should be ok.

Or outdoor session. Now you are all getting used to running with one another and also controlling your speed it is time to alter things a little. Remember as always it is still a recovery run on a Monday but I have added a few surprises which you will find out about on Monday night. It is about getting your body to respond when it’s least expecting to! I will give your group leader my thoughts over the weekend!

Social run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre at 7pm (meet in foyer) on well-lit paths and pavements. Suitable for all abilities; there will be several stops to run back/regroup, no-one runs by themselves or gets left behind. New and returning Tuesday night runners always welcome.
Route to be decided on the night, around 5 miles. Please wear high vis if you have it.

Easter Handicap Station Road. 7.20 pm start. Station car park. The Athletic Club will open at 6.45pm (please!) As the Christmas handicap was off road then it is only fair the Easter handicap is on the road (ok, path), at least it shouldn’t take much marking out. Please do we have any time keepers who would like to help? I know the clocks will have changed but it will still be quite dark so I’m expecting everyone to wear hi-vis tops.

In a club handicap race you have to have run at least two time trials to qualify for a chance to win the main trophy. However as this is a short term your Christmas handicap run will count as one time trial run. Everyone who runs will get an Easter egg and everyone who wants to run will also be given a handicap start time whether you have done a qualifying time or not, just see me and I will point you in the right direction. This is a fun event and we don’t turn anyone away. Please bring along a few nibbles to pool together at the Athletic club after the race, this is also where prizes are given out.

Helmsley 10K Run – 1st April 10am, multi terrain race partly on road, partly on forestry track and footpaths and fields

Message from the chairman:

I’m drained, what a week!
I am very pleased to announce that Thirsk 10 is rescheduled for Sunday 8th April 2018. I thank you all for bearing with us whilst we rearranged this race and look forward to seeing you on the 8th. I appreciate this date will not suit everyone, however we’ve done our best. Please can we rally together a pull off a great race.

Message from the head-coach:
Cut my first lawn today which is only a couple of days later than last year which means spring may have arrived at last. Birds are also singing loudly which means they are happy and looking for partners so I’m expecting nests to be built very shortly, you would not have thought this when only five days ago we were having a job to travel because of snow. Yes, running in early spring is just about as good as it gets. Even the aches don’t seem as half as bad as they did a week ago. (bet I’m not saying this on Monday)
See you soon, Rob
