Rob’s Weekly Blog and Training Update w/c 11/01/16

Monday 11th January. 7pm Flatts behind the pool!!

I know one or two of you are not too happy about training outside but sometimes we have to work with the tools we have at our disposal. Come with an open mind and you will be surprised at what you can achieve when you put your mind to it.

Wednesday 13th Jan 7pm Sportshall. Thirsk School

Brilliant turnout this last Wednesday and a brilliant session. Prepare the body and focus the mind. Lets do it together.

Outside group. 2 x ( 2 x 4mins/1min rec ) 3 mins between sets

Monday 18th January. 7pm. Gym. Thirsk School

This is what you have been waiting for and, yes we are inside. Expect a big turn out and please listen to what Sonja has to say to get the best out of the session. I keep getting asked what are we going to do if numbers keep growing and I always reply by saying to make the sessions harder and people will stop coming!! However, this doesn’t seem to be working because the harder it gets the more of you seem to come. Have you all noticed how many people there seems to be out running and biking these past few weeks? It will be interesting to see if this continues once the real cool weather arrives.

Wednesday 20th January. 7pm Schools Sportshall.

Outside group. 2 x ( 4 x 2mins/1 rec) 2 mins between sets.

Chuffing Nora, not again. Another crosscountry cancelled. I have never know this before. I ran in the Northern xcountry champs at Chester le Street in around 84 which ended up a sea of mud from start to finish and in 92 I help design a course for the Yorkshire champs at Thirsk to run through a freshly harvested potato field in similar weather conditions as at the moment.( I actually asked the farmer to run his cultivator through the land to make it even worse!!) I did think we would have something similar this weekend. When it gets like this it becomes a test of will power and determination. I now see the fixture has been moved to Saturday 23rd January at Redcar which is interesting because it will be a new course.

Interesting fact. The last time I ran at Redcar must have been around 30 years ago, the Redcar 10. A flat 2 lap course and it was won by Ian Gilmour in 47 minutes something. In the same year he won the Thirsk 10 and also the York 10, both in under 48 minutes. I wonder how he would have gone in the mud this weekend?

Look forward to seeing you all soon, Rob
