Rob’s weekly blog and training update w/c 28/10/19

See under “FUTURE RACE LISTS” for some nice 5k trail races, starting at 10 am, enter on the day

SATURDAY 26TH OCTOBER

Ian Codling is aiming to complete his 100th Park Run at Fountains Abbey this Saturday; please come and support this great guy on this wonderful achievement.

SUNDAY 27TH OCTOBER

CHAMPIONSHIP RACE – Whixley 10k – multi terrain

MONDAY 28TH OCTOBER  (club training night)

7pm for 7.20 start monthly time trial, Station Road. Meet at Lidl end but please come prepared to take part in a pre TT warm up outside the racecourse entrance. There is plenty of room and we can also have a little chat and fill in your starting slot as we warm up. I am getting a little concerned that quite a number are going from a standing start to a sprint without warming up, a recipe for injuries and not very fast times.

Please wear your hi-vis vests. If you don’t have one, then you need to get one for future please. The Christmas handicap is booked to take place on the second Wednesday in December on the SGT, it is now official and weather permitting we will be good to go. You need to run two TT’s to qualify to win it. Trust me, if you like to run and you like to run fast then you will want to be part of it.

TUESDAY 29TH  OCTOBER  (social run*)

Social run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre at 7pm (meet in foyer) on well-lit paths and pavements. Suitable for all abilities; there will be several stops to run back/regroup, no-one runs by themselves or gets left behind. New and returning Tuesday night runners always welcome.

Route to be decided on the night, around 5 miles. Please wear high vis.

WEDNESDAY 30TH OCTOBER  (club training night)

7pm Station road intervals. Race course entrance warm up.

Then split into groups. 8 x 3 mins/1 min rec   Out and back. There are one or two road work sections along the footpath, nothing too dramatic but just keep an eye out for them. With luck they could be removed before next week.

THURSDAY 31ST OCTOBER  (social run*)

7pm sharp, Starting from Kilburn just past the white houses (winter route).

Bring a clean t-shirt and some beer tokens for refreshments afterwards.

SUNDAY 3RD NOVEMBER

CHAMPIONSHIP RACE – Guy Fawkes 10 – mostly on road, with some significant hills  Race now FULL

FELL RACE – Lockton Limping, 11.2km/330m – Lockton Village Hall, nr Pickering

Message from the head-coach:

It appears my parcel has arrived in Italy. Ti ringrazio e ti auguro i migliori successi sportivi.   Ezio — el Presidente.  I told Ezio that I ran in his top at the Gormire Gamble, I’ve not had a reply yet, but I also told him it seems to go quite fast, especially on the downhill sections!!

This past weekend and in just over 24hrs Christine and I attended presentations by Simon Reeve, Steve Backshall and Chris Packham. All with a story to tell and each one of them very passionate about what they do. If you ever get the chance, try to see or read the book by Simon Reeve then please do. You won’t be disappointed. He left everyone spellbound for the entire three hours. Brilliant.

* social runs are not a club training night and therefore not covered by our insurance.  Please enjoy these nights under your own risk.
