Rob’s weekly blog and training update w/c 05/08/19

(start 2pm) – Osmotherley Show Race, Show Ground, Thimbleby, DL6 3PY (check necessary kit list)

7pm Athletic Club. Working together once again on the cricket pitch.

Fell race

Ravenscar Rumble, Ravenscar Visitor Centre, Ravenscar, YO13 0NE (check necessary kit list)

(start 7:15pm)

7pm prompt. Kilburn Woods. Osgoodby Bank car park. Due to popular demand it’s time to do another session of hill reps. It would be good to do it on the same section as last time but if it’s too wet then we can perform the same session on the main track. It’s much safer but we need to look out for other people who may be using the track at the same time. Like last time, could we please have a few early arrivals just to clear the track of wind falls and other obstacles that may cause injury. It also means you get a longer warm up and I needn’t worry about getting someone to check it out during the day.

2 x ( 8 x 1 min/ 1 min recovery) 3 mins between sets. After the main session we need to find a run of around a mile to round it off. Since the track we used the last time is probably head high in nettles and briers then we will call it out of bounds. I will suggest something similar but I’m going to keep this a secret because I don’t quite know what it will be yet!! Please don’t expect the going to be as good as last time as the conditions were perfect but as always, the session will be as easy or as hard as the effort you put into it. Please car share as much as possible as these sessions are very popular, and parking is at a premium.

7pm sharp, Starting from the car park near the gliding club.

Bring a clean t-shirt and some beer tokens for refreshments afterwards.

CHAMPIONSHIP RACE – Darlington 10k – flat 2 lap road race. Sun am. Potential PB course

Message from the head-coach:

I probably shouldn’t say this but since our next door neighbour’s cat died we have a lot more wild birds in our garden, it doesn’t mean there are lots more birds in total but we do have more birds in our garden. All this is good news because we designed our garden to attract wild birds and there is nothing I like more than to sit and watch them bobbing in and out of our stream as we sit and have tea and so on. Our star attraction at the moment is a male blackbird ( black feathers, orange beak) who is easily identified because he has two white patches on his chest. He is now raising his third brood, two threes and a two. His favourite fruit is pear which we pop on the doorstep and he flies down and picks it up. If he has youngsters with him, which seems most of the time, he brings them food and feeds them one at a time. If the slices of pear are too large then the youngsters complain, he then breaks them up into smaller pieces until they are satisfied and they then eat them. I think this blackbird is well suited to ,looking after our grand kids but he looks to be busy enough as it is.

see you soon, Rob
