Message from the head-coach:

Antarctica. Surely you all wanted the baby Grey Headed Albatross to climb back into its nest!!!  ( 7 worlds)

Not long after my brother’s funeral Christine and I put a house on the market that we were buying as an investment to provide income in our old age. We sold it for the asking price and within 10 minutes of it going on the market. A third of the money went towards our daughter who used it as a deposit to but her first house, another third we put in high risk investments in our ISA account and the remaining third went to the then Ryedale Travel to pay for an expedition cruise on an icebreaker into the depths of Antarctica. We booked the last cabin on the last ship to go that particular summer and the first trip the following year the same ship struck an iceberg and everyone had to be rescued. Yes, we spent three full days in a force 10 gale in Drake passage but I did manage to go to the gym twice during this time. I also managed a run on the snow and ice but only backwards and forwards between two red flags wearing a pair of wellies and several layers of clothing. A few days later I was dropped off at the Falklands on a single track road around ten miles from getting back onto our ship. Christine and I also spent a full day and night with the half a million king penguins featured on the tv programme last Sunday and this surely must rate as one of the most emotional and romantic things we have ever done. The smell and the noise will stay with us forever.

Losing a brother was not just the only reason we went at Antarctica, it just meant it became a reality and not just a dream. House extensions and new bathrooms became less of a priority so please whatever you do, don’t leave for tomorrow what you could and should have done yesterday.

* social runs are not a club training night and therefore not covered by our insurance.  Please enjoy these nights under your own risk.

Hello club members and friends of the Thirsk 10 road race. We would just like to provide a brief update to inform everybody that for obvious reasons the Thirsk 10 race will not be held in March 2021 however, we intend to reassess the situation in the Spring with a view to holding the event later in the year subject to national and local restrictions in place at the time. We apologise for the disappointment this will undoubtably cause, however I am sure that everybody appreciates that the Covid 19 Pandemic is a fluid situation with rules and restrictions seemingly changing on a daily basis. We will provide a further update in once we have been able to consider matters. Assuring you of our best intentions at all times, keep running and stay safe. The Thirsk 10 Team.
