Weekly Race report – 16/09/13

Four club members had their annual trip to the World Masters Fell Championships, this year held in the Czech Republic.  The venue was the Black Mountains, about 100 miles north east of Prague.  With 8k of length and 2000 feet of climb, the race was not technically difficult but concentration was needed.  Christine Burn was 21st F55 finisher in 1.17.11,  David Read 50th M55 in 1.07.24,  Rob Burn 21st M60 in 55.28 and Alan Wikeley 33rd M65 in 1.15.28.

Rather shorter, but testing enough in the climb was the Roseberry Topping Fell Race, straight up and down the peak as quickly as you can.  As so often at this time of year, the weather was overcast and the going was wet owing to earlier heavy rain.  Hester Cox came 45th in 19.26,  Carol Morrison 53rd in 21.20,  and Alan Wikeley 56th in 22.17.

Alan Harman competed in the difficult Yorkshireman Half Marathon over a course which was very slippery and even boggy in places.  He finished 120th out of 246 in 2.32.09.

Ian Codling was the club’s sole representative in the Wetherby 10k, finishing 669th out of 765 runners in 63.28.
This last weekend, Ian completed his 500th race since he started running about 12 years ago.  This was the Pickering and Moors 10k, multi-terrain with some significant undulations.  Richard Easby was first club finisher, 87th in 59.53 with Ian 97th in 66.31.
