U15 Girls Shine At Relays

The club hosted the NYSD cross country league relays on Sunday afternoon, on a perfect day for those waiting to run and for spectators, but perhaps a bit too hot for running!  About 40 teams took part on a course round Thirsk and Sowerby Flatts, with six teams from the club.In the under 15 girls’ race, the club team of Charlotte Knowles, Amy Knowles and Kerry Coventry finished in 2nd place with a cumulative time of 22.23. As with the girls, the ladies needed three members for a team, and 5th placed was the team of Lorraine Hiles, 13.50, Sue Busuttil, 14.23 and Sarah Glover, 13.39, the times given for the two mile legs.  In 9th place were Hilary Coventry, 15.10,  Fran Jeffery, 15.21 and Christine Burn, 17.45.  Cath Lumb, 18.35 and Carol Morrison, 15.31  also went round the course but did not have a complete team.  Carol’s time was especially remarkable as she had competed in the Glaisdale Rigg Fell Race earlier in the day! Four men were required in a team for their event, and Julian Norton, 11.19, Dan Holdsworth, 11.46, Stephan Tomaszewski, 12.01 and Phil Utley, 11.13, were the first club team, in 5th place.  The team of Merv Burn, 12.18, Rob Burn, 12.58, Walter Busuttil, 11.51 and Gavin Coventry,12.02, finished 6th.  The team of Stewart Mechie, 12.48,  Cameron Choules, 11.35, Graham Robinson, 13.48 and Kevin Winfield, 12.32, came 8th.
Congratulations to Rob Burn and his helpers for organising the event – they must have been on their hands and knees praying for such a lovely day!  Thanks also to the regular team of time keepers and recorders, without whom such events could not take place and who have the full gratitude of all the runners.
Earlier in the day, 122 runners were involved in the Glaisdale Rigg Fell Race, Race 11 in the winter series.  Once again, it felt more like summer, and Noel Clough had another good race to finish 18th in 68.58, with Pete Wilkin 57th in 78.46,  Hester Cox 61st in 79.31,  Geoff Bullock Jn 68th in 81.43 and Carol Morrison 100th in 92.45.
All thoughts now are on the Thirsk 10 Road race om March 25th, with a Fun Run preceding the main race.  Full details are on the club website.
