Steve And Dan Have A Great Day Out In Leeds

Perhaps the main event of the weekend was the annual Leeds Abbey Dash 10k, with more than 6400 runners for this fast out and back race.  Steve Middleton was once again towards the front of the field, finishing 140th in a very good 35.35, with Dan Holdsworth also going well to come 206th in 36.50.
An altogether smaller scale and harder event was the Lightwater Valley Challenge 10k, organised in aid of the “Help for Heroes” charity.  Run in very misty conditions in and around the theme park, much of the course was off-road with plenty of undulations and the 273 finishers didn’t find conditions easy!  Alan Harman was first Harrier home, in 123rd place in a time of 51.56 with Ian Codling 218th in 60.44 and Marian Codling 257th in 68.43.
Cyclo-cross enthusiasts Noel Clough and Pete Wilkin were involved in races at Bingley on both Saturday and Sunday, Saturday seeing the annual Cyclists v Harriers Challenge over a fell race course on the moors above Bingley.  The course was dry for the time of year, and Noel finished 3rd overall with Pete winning the V50 category.  Because it was so dry, the cyclists had the advantage and won the Challenge this year.  Another Yorkshire Points Series race was held in Myrtle park on Sun, with Noel once more having a good race to come 5th overall and Pete was pipped on the line to finish 2nd V50!
