Rob’s weekly blog and training update w/c 24/04/2017

Sunday 23rd April.  London Marathon.  Good luck to all those taking part. I am getting excited and looking forward to watching you on tv on Sunday morning. Let us know how you get on.

Monday 24th April.   7pm.  Athletic Club.   It is still a little cool so come wearing a few layer of clothes. We’ll be fine when we get going. Training of course will be on grass!!

Tuesday 25 April. – Social group run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre, meet in the foyer at 7pm. All abilities welcome, scope to run at your own pace as there will be several stops to regroup/run back along the way. Mostly off road though may depend on the weather, trail shoes not essential but can be worn if you have them. Please also wear high vis if you have it. Route to be decided on the night, 5-6 miles.

Look forward to seeing you there. Thanks, Chris

Wednesday 26th April.  Club Championship Race.  Redcar coastal 5k.  There will be no club session tonight.
Stephan had confirmed the mini bus will leave the Athletic Club at 5.30pm sharp for a 7.15 start. There will be a large turnout so registration could be a little hectic. This is a perfect flat course (honest!) and if the weather is right it is brilliantly fast. We have quite a group of members who are now very close to a pb, I see your results. You need to be in this race and use one another to get a good time. Don’t forget your club vest.
Thursdays run starts prompt from Old Byland at 7 pm, parking is limited so please car share if you can. The run is around 6 miles and goes along the river Rye with some hills in between and gives fine views over Rievaulx Abby. The venue for the committee meeting will be decided on the night.
Regards Gavin
Congratulations to Duncan on winning last nights Easter handicap race. We’re not going to hear the end of this! I hope you all enjoyed the few obstacles. These were put down to add a little variety and to make you think. We always used to have these in place during cross countries when we held them at the racecourse. Steve Cram once won the Northern Cross country Championships by running through the very same wood , Gosh maybe 30 years ago and the obstacles didn’t slow him down. I must apologise for the surface around the outside of the field though, there are getting too many rabbits about and they leave it just a little bit rough and it wasn’t very good going. The rest of it was ok though. Andy B should have some very good photos. Sadly he missed Cameron trying to go under and not over the tree.
Also congrats to the Lowthers and Wikeleys who won the free rooms for on the night of the Lyke Wake relay. Remember, you need to look in the bed, not just under it. I hope you all sleep well. Thank you David and team for putting it all together.
Have a good weekend and see you soon, Grandad Rob
