Seventeen Harriers were among the more than 1000 finishers of the popular Brass Monkey Half Marathon organised by Knavesmire Harriers at York last Sunday.  The flat course lends itself to PB's, hence its popularity, and international runner Stephen Hepples of Newham and Essex Beagles was the winner in 1.08.13, beating regular front runner Ian Fisher of Otley AC into 2^nd place in 1.09.45.  Alan Somers took 1.37.39 and came 317^th, David Shorrocks 395^th in 1.41.14,  Ken Evitt, finishing alongside Hester Cox, 420 ^th in 1.42.32,  Ernie Huck 437^th in 1.43.31,  Nigel Morgan 534^th in 1.47.44,  Jill Knight 541^st in 1.47.51, Sarah Somers 548^th in 1.48.21,  Helen Ashworth 617^th in 1.51.56,  Alan Harman 646^th in 1.53.09,  Steve Billings 672^nd in 1.54.04,  Judith Seaton 796^th 2.02.29, Yvonne Wood 862^nd in 2.07.29,  Jo Fambely 870^th in 2.07.57 ,  Eileen Howell 883^rd in 2.09.30, and Nik Sutton-Haigh 896^th in 2.10.40.

  The previous weekend, rather fewer runners took part in the Clay Bank East Fell Race, over a definitely more hilly course, though the turnout of 113 was still quite good compared with some recent races.  Andy Hilton of Acorn came 1 ^st in 35.31 and Peter Wilkin put in a good performance to finish 14^th in 43.15,  Alasdair Thorpe 47^th in 48.44,  Steve Harrison 90^th in 55.13 and Nicola Thorpe 102^nd in 57.07.
