The latest fixture in the NYSD Cross Country
league took place at Whitby on Jan 13th, but owing to a clash of fixtures with
a fell race and the Yorkshire Vets Cross Country Championships, numbers were
down at Whitby - a pity, as the excellent course and organisation deserved
more support. Conditions were reasonably good for running, and the expected
rain held off. It was good once again to have a couple of juniors involved,
with Ben Morgan running another very good race in the U13 boys event to finish
8th in 9.59. Keziah Paxton came 10th in 13.45 in the U15 girls race. Only
two Thirsk and Sowerby members competed in the Women's event, with Hester Cox
running as well as ever to come 11th in 25.18 and Marian Codling 39th in
38.31.
Phil Utley was the first Harrier to finish in
the men's race, coming 24th in 36.34, Gavin Coventry 59th in 42.08, Ken
Evitt 64th in 43.48, Tom Thompson 76th in 46.18, Nigel Morgan 79th in
47.51, Jonathan Severs 84th in 50.50, Ian Codling 85th in 50.58 and Phillip
Craig 90th in 63.08.
