Race Reports 14th April 2008

This year's London Marathon attracted its usual sprinkling of members from Thirsk and Sowerby and all were relatively pleased with their results.  Brett Edgeworth had the fastest time, taking 3h 20 min, and had a good first half, finding life more difficult later, and in fact was 20 min slower than last year.  Weather conditions were good to begin with, before a heavy shower of rain made life harder.  63 year old Ernie Huck was next in 3.30.31, just missing out on the time of 3.30 which was required to be a "good for his age" entrant next year!  Ernie was interviewed at some length on the BBC broadcast of the race, the young woman reporter having told him she'd struggled to catch him for interviewing, even though he'd just run a marathon!  Alan Harman, in his 9th London Marathon, took 3.58.42, and he also had run well to begin with but found things harder in the later stages.  Hester Cox, in her first marathon, was pleased with her time of 4.08.31, even though the last 8 miles in particular were very tough.  Like most runners, she found the whole experience amazing and memorable.  Paul Iley took 4.59.34,  just about the same time as last year.  All the runners enjoyed the race and particularly the enthusiastic support of the crowds.
