The latest fixture in the NYSD cross country league
took place at Stockton on Sunday, with the beautiful weather making up in
some part for the rather uninspiring surroundings. Perhaps this
latter accounted for the low turn-out, but Carolyn Summershill of M&C was
again the convincing winner of the ladies' race in a time of 14.12. Pat
Kirby finished 27th in 19.34, Pam Sherlock 32nd in 24.34 and Marian
Codling 33rd in 26.30.
The men had to run twice as far as the women and
the winner, Andy Wiles of M&C took 25.03 minutes. Phil Utley came 20th in
28.13, Walter Busuttil, making a welcome return in club colours, 25th in
28.51, Gavin Coventry 60th in 33.39, Ken Evitt 71st in 35.27 and Phillip
Craig 88th in 46.50. The women's team finished 6th and the men's team
7th.
Alan Harman tackled the hard Liversedge Half
Marathon and finished 272nd out of 423 runners in 117.06. Alan has been
suffering illness and injury and it's good to see him back running.
The previous week, Jill Knight ran the Dewsbury
10k, a good race for doing a fast time, although you don't think so at
first as the out and back race is all uphill to begin with! Jill did a
superb personal best time of 46.45, and improves with every outing.
