A dozen Thirsk and Sowerby
Members were among the large field of 220 finishers in the Captain Cook's Fell
Race on New Year's Day, with conditions very muddy underfoot. Paul Lowe of
NYM won the event in 32.37 minutes, and Rob Burn put in another good
performance to finish 15th, and 1st M50, in 37.20. Alan Somers was next
Harrier to finish in 65th place in 42.05, Mark Ludiman 72nd in 42.38,
Alasdair Thorpe 84th in 43.17, a hairsbreadth ahead of Gavin Coventry, 85th in
43.18, Steve Harrison 147th in 49.16, Alan Wikeley 152nd in 49.36, Sarah
Somers 166th in 50.58, Nicola Thorpe 168th in 51.21, Charlotte Ludiman 178th
in 51.46, Cath Lumb 199th in 56.56 and Will Elliott 208th in 59.57.
Gary Dunn chose to run off
his Christmas excesses at the Boxing Day 10k Road Race in Leyland, testing
himself and coming 5th in a high quality field. Adam Peers of Liverpool
Harriers was the winner in 31.09 and the first three finishers were all under
32 minutes. Gary's time was a very excellent 32.30, which would have been a
comfortable winning time in many races.
Don't forget the Cross
Country race at Whitby on Jan 13th - mini-bus from Tesco car park.
