After gale force winds during the preceding week, any
races on Sunday were approached with some trepidation! However, conditions
for the Norton 9 near Doncaster turned out to be quite good, with wind only
a small factor in this scenic rural course. Ian Fisher of Otley AC, a
familiar name to club members, was the comfortable winner in 46.55 with Ian
Codling finishing 317th in 78.53 and Marian Codling 424th in 100.03
minutes. 429 runners competed this very enjoyable race.
Alan Harman, meanwhile, was taking part in the even
more scenic Haweswater Half Marathon and came 311th out of 419 runners in a
time of 1.13.17.
After a gap of several weeks, the next race in the
Club Championship will be the Ackworth Half Marathon on March 16th.
Members had an interesting trip out on club night,
organised by club coach Rob Burn, to do the monthly Time Trial at
Scarborough! Wind again might have been a factor here, but in fact
conditions were very pleasant, and the only hitch was in the lack of fish
and chips to enjoy for supper afterwards! Most of the Scarborough fish and
chip shops were closed! Nevertheless, a good time was had by all.
