This year's Jolly Holly Jog 10k at Ripon, over a new course, was rumoured to be hard and very muddy, but in fact it turned out to be better than expected, and was enjoyed by most of the 472 finishers. It was certainly hard, and there was mud in places, but a pleasant morning made the run a good social event, with the opportunity to run off some of the Christmas excesses! Ricky Stevison of New Marske was the winner in 31.38 minutes, and Ollie Harrison, making one of his occasional appearances, was the first Thirsk and Sowerby runner to finish in a very good 41.33. Alasdair Thorpe and Gavin Coventry were neck and neck at the line, with Alasdair just edging it, 84th in 44.13 and Gavin 85th in 44.16. Ken Evitt had another good run, coming 102nd in 45.50, David Shorrocks 107th in 46.09, Les Sutton-Haigh 130th in 47.42, Steve Harrison 165th in 49.38, Nigel Morgan 178th in 50.10, Lorraine Hiles, performing well in her first outing for the club, 198th in 51.15, Fiona Bellas 207th in 51.49, Nicola Thorpe 237th in 53.07, Ian Codling, shadowed by Jonathan Severs round the whole course and just managing to pip him at the post, 270th in 55.00, with Jonathan 271st in 55.01, Jo Fambely 350th in 60.05, Nik Sutton-Haigh 354th in 60.23, Eileen Howell 359th in 60.35, Paul Iley 375th in 61.56, Sharon Keegan 398th in 63.48, Pamela Sherlock 444th in 70.17, Phillip Craig 446th in 70.34 and Marian Codling 455th in 71.38.
