Guisborough Three Tops Fell race was run over a new
course this year, still taking in the Hanging Stone, Little Roseberry and
Highcliff Nab, but causing some runners concern with orienteering! Paul
Lowe of NYM won the race in 60.25, and Dusan Svoboda came 11th in 68.54,
with Hester Cox 59th in 86.04. 89 runners completed this testing course.
The following weekend, Jill Knight chose an
altogether flatter course, the Barnsley 10k road race, finishing 312th out
of 670 entrants in an excellent 49.34 on a very wet day!
Word was received recently of John Yates' efforts,
trying his hand at a triathlon at international level, in the form of the
Panaga Triathlon. 20 competitors completed the course comprising a 500
metre swim, a flat 28k cycle ride and 5k run on the beach, and John
finished a very creditable 7th in 1 hr 23 min. On Dec 2nd he will be
competing in the Singapore Half Marathon, when Thirsk and Sowerby members
will be concentrating all their efforts on their Thirsk 10 road race, either
helping or running. Residents of Thirsk, Sowerby, Sandhutton and Carlton
Miniott may see more than 500 runners passing through the streets. Members,
please offer yourselves for marshalling if you are not running - a lot of
help is needed to make the race a success on its new date in the calendar.
The main race starts at 11 a.m. from the racecourse, with the Fun Run and
Mini marathon starting from the same place at 10 a.m. The latter race is
all off-road.
