The weather was just what you might expect for a typical cross country race - pouring with rain, muddy and very cold - for the event organised by Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers on Sunday.  It was the latest fixture in the NYSD series and the course round the Flatts was excellent, if rather on the long side!  Gary Dunn continued his superb winning form, finishing just ahead, by 4 seconds, of the second runner, who had tailed him much of the way.  Gary's time was 37.38, with Richard Hall the next finisher, 17th in 42.59,  Phil Utley 25th in 44.28,  Rob Burn, making a rare appearance, and showing he has not lost his appetite for running, expecially off-road, 27th in 44.55,  Dusan Svoboda 39th in 46.12,  Stewart Mechie 48th in 47.23, Mark Ludiman 74th in 51.57,  Gavin Coventry, in his first outing for the club, 81st in 53.22,  David Shorrocks 90th in 56.12,  David Goddard 98th in 58.16, Ian Codling 103rd in 63.39, and Paul Iley, entering his first race for some time, 109th in 69.39.  The men's team finished in 3rd place.

Tracey Waller of Hartlepool Burn Road won the Ladies' race in 28.18, Angela Hall first T&S finisher, 14th in 31.35,  Hester Cox 19th in 33.11,  Victoria Beasley, another newcomer to racing, 41st in 42.28.  Marian Codling 45th in 50.01, and Pam Sherlock 46th in 50.42.  It was good to have enough ladies for a team, which finished 5th.
It was also good to have some younger members taking part, and Sam Bye put in a good performance to come 8th in 12.21 in the U15 Boys' race.  Another consistently good runner, Ben Morgan, came 10th in 8.03 in the U13 Boys' race, with Tim Cook 14th in 8.25 and Jake Mullins 18th in 8.45.
A big thankyou to all who helped to set up the course, marshalled, and cleared up at the end - not such appealing jobs on a cold, wet day!
