Snow Problem At Broughton Woods

It was a busy weekend for Harriers, with ten of them taking part in the Broughton Woods Fell Race.  There was plenty of snow on the tops, but mud and ice were also a feature, as well as strong winds, making a hard course altogether more testing, especially for the novice runners. Chris Raw lead club members home, finishing 50th, and 3rd F45, in 55.32.  Graham Robinson was next, 72nd in 61.00 with Hywel Smith 75th, and 2nd M60, in 61.55,  Steve Booth 99th in 65.40,  Hilary Coventry 106th in 68.30,  Nicola Fearn 108th in 69.10,  Pat Kirby 114th, and 2nd F60, in 72.36,  Bryan Miller 119th in 84.48 and Claire Gillan 120th in 84.50.  There were 127 entrants. The women’s team finished an excellent 3rd.

The 10k road race at Dewsbury was altogether flatter and calmer, with buildings along the route offering protection from the winds.  The fast, flat race attracted a high quality field, and Dan Holdsworth did well to finish 38th in 35.24 with Charlotte Sanderson 63rd in 36.24 and Steve Middleton 101st in 37.59.  At the other end of the field, Ian Codling
came 762nd in 62.44 and Marian Codling 797th in 71.02.  There were 807 finishers in total.

The previous weekend, Alan Harman was among the 550 finishers of the Ferriby 10 Road Race near Hull.  Strong winds were again a feature over a course which is hard enough at the best of times and Alan came 400th in a time of 87.35.

Noel Clough was engaged in the latest North East Cyclo Cross event at Gateshead Stadium over a course which had drying out mud and was therefore very cloggy.  Noel managed a very good 5th place, and was crowned North East N40 Champion for the season.  Very well done!
