Race Report 30/07/19

The club had its most successful week for a long time, with Tom Levi coming a magnificent 1st in the tough James Herriot Trail Race, a full 2 minutes ahead of the second placed competitor. The team of Tom Levi, Josh Cooper, Lorraine Hiles and Esther Harrison won the Mixed Team Prize and Lorraine also got the prize for 1st F55.  These were no mean feats over a course which is renowned for its toughness across moorland tracks and significant hills for almost 9 miles.  Fortunately, the day was dry after a very wet Saturday, and much cooler than earlier in the week, though still pretty warm!

Tom, in 1st place, took 57.22, with Josh Cooper a very good 11th in 62.58, Lorraine Hiles 54th in 73.10, Esther Harrison 60th in 74.06, Alan Simpson 76th in 76.07, Andy Butcher 93rd in 77.37, Rob Burn 96th in 77.58, David Tervit 107th in 80.03, Kirsty Naylor 155th in 87.54, Geoff Bullock 164th, and 2nd M70, in 88.36, Faith Coy 185th in 94.13, Heather Bell 186th in 94.24, Alison Butcher 209th in 100.16, Christine Burn 242nd in 110.33, Alan Wikeley 255th in 120.30, Margaret Wikeley 257th, and 2nd F70, in 122.25 and Liz Stephenson 263rd in133.42.

Just a few days previously, several of these runners took part in Inclined to Madness Fell Race, with Tom Levi again having a high finishing position, 5th in 50.28.  Josh Cooper came 16th in 54.19, David Fawkes 41st in 59.03, Esther Harrison 63rd in 64.07, Lorraine Hiles 66th, and 1st F55, in 65.04, David Tervit 73rd in 68.02, Hilary Coventry 88th, 2nd F55, in 74.00, Fran Jeffery 99th in 79.50 and Helen Ashworth 106th in 81.15.  Once again in a fell race, the ladies came away with the team prize, and their 2nd team was 4th, as was the men’s team.

The numbers at Fountains Abbey Park Run were down a little this week, at 290, perhaps because of the heavy overnight rain, although it had actually eased off for the run.  Ian Crane came 171st in 29.12, Gillian Crane 246th in 35.02, Marian Codling 272nd in 40.04 and Ian Codling, still nursing his knee, 275th in 40.52. At Northallerton, Pete Jackson was 15th out of 60 in 23,51 and Phillip Craig 38th in 29.23, and at Millfield, Mike Cropper came 6th in 20.15, Adrian Saunders 20th in 22.50 and Gary Wilkinson 31st in 24.47, all three trying the new run for the first time. Trish Radford had another trip to Rushmere, finishing 88th out of 175 in 29.42.
