Race Report 22/01/2019

There was a good turnout of members on Sunday for the second club championship event of the season, the NYSD cross country fixture at Ormesby Hall, on a perfect morning for running.  Conditions underfoot were good, and Esther Harrison ran well to come 31st out of 123 in the ladies’ race in 23.54, closely followed by Lorraine Hiles, 32nd in 23.56.  Kirsty Naylor, always competitive, came 42nd in 25.15, new member, Andrea Colls, 71st in 27.47, Jill Libby 74th in 27.58, another new member, Emma Driffield, 88th in 29.47, Rosie Gatenby 90th in 29.51, Alison Butcher, in her first race after an injury, 97th in 30.49, Christine Burn 107th in 33.19, Margaret Wikeley, tackling cross country for the first time, 117th in 37.36, Liz Stephenson 120th in 39.32 and Marian Codling 123rd in 44.22.

Men over 65 ran with the ladies, and Rob Burn was 1st M65 finisher in 22.55, with Geoff Bullock 27.23, Alan Wikeley 38.55 and Ian Codling 42.07.

In the senior men’s race over almost twice the distance, Josh Fothergill came 28th, and 2nd U20, out of 147 in 36..29, with Ken Wood a minute behind, 42nd in 37.29, Stephan Tomaszewski 66th in 39.28, several minutes quicker than his time for the race last year, Andy Butcher 105th in 43.00, Mike Cropper 110th in 44.01, David Tervit 122nd in 46.51, new members, Adrian Elsworth, 134th in 49.48, and Duncan Fothergill, finishing in spite of carrying an injury, 147th in 54.48.

A cold morning on Saturday considerably reduced the field for the Fountains Abbey Park Run, to a mere 305!  Five Thirsk and Sowerby members were involved, Ian Crane coming 112th in 26.08, Martin Cummins 165th in 29.00, Paul Adams 179th in 29.48, Gillian CRane 237th in 32.43 and Jane Cummins 269th in 34.52.

Northallerton had 97 finishers, with Ken Evitt 49th in 29.23, Rosie Gatenby 50th in 29.45 and Phillip Craig 56th in 30.23.

Adrian Elsworth was among the 491 at Harrogate for the first time and came 131st in 24.50.

Long Eaton sounded like a good place to run, with the first 3 finishers under 16 minutes!  The field was 501, with Mike Lowther 53rd in 21.44 and Tracey Lowther 193rd in 26.43.

Woolacombe Dunes sounds harder, and Alan Simpson came 12th out of 89 in 24.51.
