Race Report 21/05/19

The Fountains 10k following on the heels of the Ripon 10 make for two very tough races in a week, and well done to Kirsty Naylor and Liz Stephenson for completing both!  Fountains 10k begins at Grantley School and a long pull up leads out across the moors, less boggy this year because of the dry spell.  Undulating road follows, with another long pull up and a welcome run down to the finish.  Kirsty finished 141st out of 438 in 52.37 (apologies to Kirsty for missing her name off the Harriers photo last week), Jenny Bradley 298th in 62.58 and Liz 428th in 79.45.

343 runners were at the Fountains (Abbey this time) Park Run, a much flatter affair altogether, though by no means flat, with Linda Bamforth 238th in 31.31 just ahead of Steve Isaac, 240th in 31.35, Ian Codling 317th in 38.18 and Marian Codling 330th in 40.16.

7 members were among the 121 at the Northallerton event, Ken Wood coming 6th in 20.02, Andy Butcher 12th in 21.58, Gary Wilkinson 16th in PB 23.00, Adrian Saunders 20th in 23.36, Pete Jackson 23.52, Duncan Fothergill, finding new impetus in his “barefoot” shoes, 25th in PB 24.10 and Phillip Craig 72nd in 29.54.

At Catterick, Mike Cropper finished 8th out of 184 in 19.20 with Jemma Cropper 119th in 30.44, and Tom Levi did a wammy, competing very effectively in the Wammy Park Run at Newcastle under Lyme, and coming and excellent 2nd out of 289 in 16.49.

The previous weekend, 4 members were at the Wainstones Half Marathon, labelled that, but in effect, 16.5 miles, a significant difference!  This very tough race has almost 3200 feet of climb, and the intrepid David Fawkes took 2.52.30, Mike Lowther 3.11.03, Tracey Lowther 4.49.44 and Phillip Craig 4.51.05.  Well done all.

At the other side of the country this weekend, Ian Crane and Martin Cummins took on the Cocker Hoop Cycling Challenge, part of the Keswick Mountain Festival.  The race, over 45 miles and with 4500 feet of climb, including both ways over Honister and taking in Newlands and Whinlatter, was completed by both – a great achievement.
