Race Report 17/09/19

No fewer than 13 members were among the thousands who completed the Great North Run this year, surely a record for the club! Conditions were good for running and some PB times were achieved. Ken Wood, in a real purple patch just now, finished in 1.28.19, with Peter Jackson taking 1.48.45, Adrian Saunders 1.50.52 and Clare Tempest 1.52.46.  Certainly Phillip Craig was delighted with his best ever time for the event, 2.06.32, a just reward for all his training, and Alan Harman, completing his 23rd consecutive GNR – another club record(?), but only his 3rd race of the year because of circumstances, was reasonably happy with 2.07.19. Joanne Hunt finished in 2.08.27, Alison Butcher 2.20.27, running with husband, Andy, who has also had a difficult year with injuries, 2.20.28.  Dean Austin took 2.31.17, Craig Ivey 2.39.34, Jemma Cropper 2.49.25 and Liz Stephenson 2.58.35.

A few Park Runners were out and about, with Fountains Abbey continuing to attract large numbers – surely one of the most scenic in the country?  There were 392 finishers this week, with Paul Bradford 85th in 24.06, Ian Crane 150th in 26.38, Paul Adams 188th in 28.18, Richard Easby 272nd in 32.33, Linda Bamforth 274th in 32.40 and Gillian Crane 276th in 32.50.

A couple were among the 125 at Northallerton, with Adrian Saunders 28th in 23.36 and Phillip Craig 69th in 28.16.  Gary Wilkinson tried out the Catterick event, coming 63rd out of 242 in 25.25, and at Rushmere, Trish Radford was 105th out of 184 in 30.17.  Rosie Gatenby, liking to ring the changes, came 149th out of 341 in 28.34, and Mike Cropper at Middleton Woods was a good 6th out of 118 in 19.57 with Jemma Cropper 79th in 32.01.
