Race Report 15/01/19

More than 1550 runners tackled the popular Brass Monkey Half Marathon at York at the weekend, with a very strong wind across a flat and exposed course making for very hard going. Tom Levi coped well to come 107th in 1.21.22, and 18 year old Josh Fothergill found himself alongside a runner from another club who was struggling to get under his 1.40 target. With help and encouragement from Josh, the runner did achieve that aim, and later expressed his thanks and appreciation to Josh on Facebook. Well done for that superb and kindly act, Josh, and well done for coming 537th in 1.39.51, certainly a little slower than you might otherwise have managed. Kirsty Naylor came 894th in 1.49.42 and proud father, Duncan Fothergill 1297th in 2.06.54.

Trish Radford took on the Temple Newsham 10, which is anything but flat, and finished 534th out of 799 in 1.40.37, getting 1st prize in the F60 category.

Fountains Abbey Park Run had another large field, 464, at the weekend on a dull, cool morning.  Walter Busuttil was first club finisher, 36th in 21.27, with Martyn Coy not far behind, 44th in 21.53.  Joseph Busuttil was 138th, pleased with his time of 22.11, and Clare Tempest came 158th in 26.47.  Nigel Morgan was 183rd in 27.25, new member, Emma Driffield, in her first Park Run, 220th in 28.49, Joanne Hunt 231st in 29.09, Paul Adams 307th in 32.04, Gillian Crane 364th in 35.13, Ian Codling 410th in 37.49 and Marian Codling 427th in 39.39.

At Northallerton, Phillip Craig came 68th in 31.31 and Liz Stephenson 93rd out of 102 in 40.12.  Paul Bradford was among the 410 at Darlington South Park and finished 78th in 23.36.

The previous weekend, the Commondale Clart Fell Race, Race 6 in the Dave Parry Winter Series, certainly lived up to its name, and Josh Cooper once again had a very good run to come 31st out of 146 in 43.36, with Brett Edgeworth 53rd in 47.20.  Alan Simpson came 69th in 49.48, Lorraine Hiles 84th, and 2nd F50, in 52.30 with Marc Davies not far behind, 86th in 53.08.  Kirsty Naylor was 94th in 55.16, Fran Jeffery 100th in 56.13, Jill Libby 107th in 58.20, David Tervit 120th in 61.34 and Faith Coy 124th in 63.13.

If you have thought you might like to try running and enjoy its fitness and health benefits as well as the sheer enjoyment of running, the club is hosting a Just4Beginners course, 12 weeks from Mon April 8th, 8 pm at Thirsk Athletic Club.  Sessions are £1 each – sign up on the club website.
