Race Report 13/08/19

The Darlington 10k Road Race over 2 laps is well received within this club, for its superb organisation, friendly atmosphere, enthusiastic support of the crowds, who hand out sweeties and oranges along the way!  Apart from that, members recorded very good times, several knocking 2 or 3 minutes, or more, off their previous best times for the distance.  Tom Levi is a case in point.  He is actually flying just now, and finished in 19th place, out of more than 1550, in a very strong field, in a PB time by 3 minutes of 34.50.  Ken Wood, also hitting a purple patch, came 111th in 40.08, and Mike Cropper, another with a PB, 149th in 41.28.  Esther Harrison just gets stronger and stronger, and came 142nd in PB 45.01, with Andy Butcher 314th in 45.25, Adrian Saunders 355th in 45.56, David Tervit 376th in PB 46.32, Alison Butcher 883rd in 56.32, Sue Low 1126th in 60.13, Lianne Robinson 1266th in 64.09, Ian Codling 1497th in 76.59 and Marian Codling 1520th in 79.52.

Ian and Gillian Crane were the club’s only representatives at the Fountains Abbey park Run, Ian finishing 199th out of 390 in 28.52 and Gillian 310th in 34.43.  At Northallerton, Phillip Craig came 44th out of 91 in 29.07, Paul Adams 50th in 29.40, Caroline Pearce 68th in 33.00 and Emma Adams (good to see her back after exams) 82nd in 41.18.

Mike Cropper is another one improving all the time.  At Millfield, he was 9th out of 152 in PB (two this weekend) 20.01, with Gary Wilkinson 45th in 25.37.  Rosie Gatenby was among the 313 at Sewerby, coming 145th in 29.29.

The club had a good representation at the Osmotherley Show Fell Race, with the irrepressible Tom Levi 4th in 43.46, Bryan Miller 17th in 50.34, Esther Harrison 26th, and 1st lady, in 53.00, Lorraine Hiles 29th, and 1st F55, in 54.38, David Tervit 48th in 59.14, Trudy Morrice 64th and 1st F45 in 68.41, with Helen Ashworth 72nd, and 1st F50,  in 73.40.  Needless to say, after such cracking results, the ladies once again came away with the team prize!

Only a few days now to the Sessay Swift 6k on Aug 21st, and preparations are in full swing.  The race is now full for this increasingly popular event.  Don’t forget money for the barbeque!
