Race Report 08/10/19

The cross country season proper got under way on Sunday with the event at Acklam, hosted by Middlesbrough and Cleveland.  A dreadful forecast didn’t quite materialise and the day was fine for running, though rain earlier and on previous days made for plenty of water and mud on the course.  In an interesting 2-lap, for ladies, route, Jill Libby was 74th, first finisher out of 123 in 30.37, with Alison Butcher 98th in 32.31, Jemma Cropper 106th in 34.15, Margaret Wikeley 117th in 39.50 and Marian Codling 123rd in 49.35.

The V65+ men ran with the ladies and Rob Burn took 24.59, Geoff Bullock 29.58, Ken Evitt 32.14, Alan Wikeley 41.03 and Ian Codling 46.11.

There were 3 senior men covering 3.5 laps, in even more mud after the course had been churned up by all the previous races, and Stephan Tomaszewski was first club finisher, 59th out of 154 in 43.26, Mike Cropper 79th in 44.33 and Andy Butcher 120th in 50.13.

Many apologies to Margaret and Alan Wikeley for omitting their results last week from the World Masters Mountain Championships in Puglia, Italy in 85 degree F temperatures!  Margaret took 72.37 and Alan 84.50.  Very well done.

Fountains Abbey Park Run continues to attract large numbers and 390 were there this week.  Liz Wordsworth was first club finisher, 197th in 29.06, Chris Wordsworth 230th in 30.40, Linda Bamforth 263rd in 31.43, Ian Codling 348th in 37.33, Sharon Keegan 357th in 38.11, Diane Brown 358th in 38.42 and Marian Codling 366th in 40.11.  Sharon and Diane are doing a Couch to 5k course, and it’s obviously working as their times were almost 6 minutes quicker than what they achieved last week!

Phillip Craig at Northallerton came 42nd out of 87 in 29.37, and at Millfield, Tom Watson was 10th out of 117 in 22.40, Pete Jackson 19th in 23.49.

Gary Wilkinson at Flatts Lane was 12th out of 30 in 28.01, Jemma Cropper came 247th out of 362 at Heslington, and at Herrington Country Park,  Rosie Gatenby was 238th out of 418 in 28.47.

Rob Burn gets a good start at the race for ladies and V65+ men
