Race Report 08/01/19

There was a good turnout of members for the first Club Championship race of the year on New Year’s Day, the Captain Cook’s Fell Race, Race 6 in the Dave Parry Winter Series, with a massive field of 350!  A lovely morning with sunshine and a light breeze  greeted runners and gave them a chance to blow out their Christmas excesses.  Tom Levi ran a fabulous 33.13 to finish in 4th place, a full 7 minutes quicker than his time for the same event last year.  Stephan Tomaszeski 71st in 39.03, Olivia Mulligan 104th in 41.45, Alan Simpson 148th in 44.18, Marc Davies 166th in 45.36, Esther Harrison 184th in 46.21, Rob Burn 194th, and 1st M65, in 47.01, Kirsty Naylor 220th in 49.06, Martyn Coy 221st in 49.11, Mike Cropper 229th in 49.51, David Tervit 258th in 52.15, Jill Libby 270th in 52.52, Duncan Fothergill 276th in 53.01, Faith Coy 294th in 55.20, Rosie Gatenby 306th in 56.15 and Christine Burn 340th in 62.16.

Florrie Wharton had another excellent run to win the U13 girls’ race.

Diane Brown was the club’s only entrant at the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships where a large number of runners enjoyed perfect running conditions in the ideal location of Lightwater Valley. The course certainly had its ups and downs, and Diane completed the 5 mile course in 49 minutes.

The following day, Ian and Marian Codling were among the almost 300 runners in the Stuart Pailor Memorial Race at Hart near Hartlepool.  Again, conditions for this lovely multi terrain race which really had something for everyone were good, and Ian finished 288th in 74.05 and Marian 293rd in 78.21.

There was another big turnout of 462 at the Foutains Abbey Park Run and Lorraine Hiles, always in superb form, came 54th in 21.55 – with an 80%+ effort, Ian Crane 158th in 26.02, Nigel Morgan 185th in 27.14, Carrie-Anne Wise 209th in 28.25, Paul Adams 268th in 30.31, Gillian Crane 339th in 33.00 and Ian Codling 416th in 37.04.  At Northallerton, Ken Evitt came 50th out of 107 in 28.11, Phillip Craig 65th in 30.41, Richard Easby 77th in 32.43 and Ellen Brookes 86th in 35.17.

Rob and Christine Burn were among the 195 at the Dalby Forest event with Rob 22nd in 22.05 and Christine 112th in 30.03.   At Keswick, Martin Cummins came 134th out of 192 in PB 30.22 and Jane Cummins 168th in PB 34.34.
