Race Report 05/11/19

Surely one of the toughest races around is the Guy Fawkes 10, mostly on roads with some severe hills, like a fell race without the mud!  It is perhaps appropriate that the first club finisher was Fawkes, David Fawkes!  In a strong field, he came 53rd in 69.53 with Rob Burn, in a fine vein of form just now, 145th in 58.57, and 1st M65 prizewinner.  Ever present David Tervit was 150th in 79.00, Alan Simpson 174th in a PB time by a minute of 1.20.53.  Alan likes running fast down hills, and there was plenty of opportunity for that!  Adrian Saunders came 177th in 1.20.59, Kirsty Naylor 263rd in 1.25.13, Andy Butcher, struggling with injury, 392nd in 1.32.04, Jill Libby 478th in 1.36.04 and Alison Butcher 624th in 1.44.23.  797 runners completed this very testing penultimate Club Championship race, and all enjoyed the chocolaty goody bag at the end.

Mike Cropper was again among this week’s Park Runners, 9th out of 285 at Fountains Abbey, an amazing total considering it was competing with the disappointing World Cup Rugby Final on TV! Olivia Mulligan 12th, and 1st lady home, in 20.01 –  how good to see Olivia running again and in such fine form.  Jemma Cropper was 160th in PB 30.46, Paul Adams 164th in 31.04, Linda Bamforth 211th in 33.40, Sharon Keegan 241st in 36.34, accompanied by Diane Brown, 242nd in 36.35.

Phillip Craig came 27th out of 56 at Northallerton in 30.17 with Ken Evitt not far behind, 29th in 30.24.  Esther Harrison was among the 99 at Millfield finishing 11th in 22.41, and further afield, James Stephenson came 25th out of 45 at Fort William in 31.52.  Rosie Gatenby, a Park Run tourist, was in the south west among the 44 at Somerdale Pavilion, coming 26th in 30.52.
