Race Report 01/10/19

The 16th race in the Club Championship race, the Redcar Half Marathon, took place on Sun with 9 members out of the 761 finishers involved on the forecast wet morning, with a breeze thrown in for good measure!  Tom Levi, in brilliant form now, came in 13th in a PB time of 1.19.44, with Josh Fothergill 106th in 1.33.55.  Esther Harrison was next, 214th in 1.43.38, David Tervit 1.44.57, Faith Coy 526th in 2.00.47, closely followed by Heather Bell 529th in 2.01.09.  Congratulations, Heather, on coming 2nd in your age group.  Phillip Craig was 592nd in 2.07.32, Alison Butcher 649th in 2.15.38 and accompanied by husband Andy, still nursing an injury, 650th in 2.15.40.

Ian and Marian Codling opted for the Zetland 10k, all part of a Redcar Festival of running.  There was a field of 400 for this, and Ian took 1.17.52, Marian 1.21.48.  Both were on flat out and back courses along the sea front.

Meanwhile in Puglia, Italy, in temperatures of 85 degrees F, 7 Harriers took part in the World Masters Mountain Championships, proud to be wearing Team GB vests.  The races were over either 1.5 or 2.5 laps with 1200 feet of ascent and descent over 6.5k or 10.9k.  On Sat, Christine Burn took 66.01 and was 3rd GB counter, coming away with a Team GB Silver Medal in her age group  and Rob Burn took 43.25, 1st Team GB counter, and helping the team to win a Bronze Medal. 
The following, day, over 10.9k, Hilary Coventry came 8th in her age group, and won a Team GB Silver Medal, Helen Ashworth was 24th F50 finisher and won a Team GB Silver Medal, and Gavin Coventry was in the top one third of the M50 age group out of 113.  What a fantastic set of results, and many congratulations in such difficult heat.
More locally, a few members did Park Runs, Richard Easby finishing in 32.13, 268th out of 370 at Fountains Abbey, Sharon Keegan 352nd in 44.04 and Diane Brown 3353rd in 44.05.
Tom Watson was among the 138 at Millfield, coming 16th out of 138 in PB 22.55 and Gary Wilkinson, in the third running of the event at Castle Howard, was 99th out of 328 in 25.41.
