Race Report 01/01/19

Club members are always eager to run off the excesses of Christmas, and soon at it were those who did Guisborough Woods Fell Race on Dec 27th (and congratulations and thanks to the race organisers who put it on at that stage!) Freddy Wharton was in fine form to win the U17 Boys’ event in 13.35 and his 12 year old sister, Florrie, was 2nd U13 Girl in 18.52.  In the Senior race, Josh Cooper came 38th out of 179 in 48.57 and Alan Simpson 104th in 59.55.

The Jolly Holly Jog on the 30th had a new course this year, definitely harder, with some runners loving it and others not so sure!  As ever, Lorraine Hiles made light work of it, coming 127th out of 796, and 3rd F50, in 47.55.  Alan Simpson was 149th in 48.43, Peter Richardson 246th in 53.33, Paul Atkinson 286th in 55.20, Malcolm Aitken 318th in 56.23, Ian Crane 380th in 58.19, Trish Radford 422nd in 60.10, James Stephenson 593rd in 67.39, Martin Cummins 598th in 68.05, Rachael Robertson 629th in 69.59, Naomi Wood 651st in 71.28, Gillian Crane 702nd in 73.50, Paul Adams 711th in 75.14, Caroline Pearce 712th in 75.17, Jane Cummins 740th in 78.23, Tracy Hayden 774th in 83.54, Ian Codling 776th in 84.21, Liz Stephenson 778th in 85.26 and Marian Codling 793rd in 92.52.

There was a record turnout of 544 the previous day at the Fountains Abbey Park Run, where a strong head wind on part of the course made for hard going in places.  Mike Cropper was first club finisher, 57th in 22.08, Lorraine Hiles 62nd in 22.15, Adrian Saunders 117th in 24.10, Duncan Fothergill 178th in 26.17, Heather Bell 257th in 28.12, Sara Langstaff 271st in 28.36, Craig Ivey 301st in 29.14, Ian Crane 332nd in 30.26, Junior member, 11 year old  Lilly Coy came 333rd in 30.29, Mum Faith 334th in 30.30, Martin Cummins 427th in 33.46, Paul Adams 437th in 33,59, Jane Cummins 445th in 34.30, Gillian Crane 447th in 34.31, Jemma Cropper 484th in 37.14,Junior member, Reuben Coy 498th in 37.56 with Dad Martyn, who’d forgotten his bar code. shortly after! Ian Codling, running with 8 year old grandson Matthew, 513th in 39.23 and Marian Codling running with 6 year old grandaughter Anna, 536th in 50.36. Altogether, 8 members of the Codling family took part and as well as Ian and Marian, there were a son, daughter and 4 grandchildren.

Ellen Brookes at Northallerton came 71st out of 93 in 35.48.
