Marian’s Weekly Race Report – w/c 27/10/14

Julian Norton was selected for Team GB for the recent Middle Distance, Half Iron Man, Triathlon Championships in Mallorca, involving a 1.9k swim, 90k cycle and 21.1k run.  With temperatures in the mid 30’s, unusually hot for the time of year, wet suits weren’t worn, and conditions for cycling and running did not lend themselves to fast times!  Nevertheless, Julian finished 10th in his age-group, and 3rd GB member – a superb achievement.  Well done.

Eight members were at the NYSD cross country fixture at Filey, with Laura Bosomworth in great form again, coming 7th in the 3.1 mile ladies’ race in 20.42, with ever-improving Gillian Crane 44th in 27.34,  Christine Burn 50th in 29.30 and Bev Davies 58th in 34.42.  It was good to have Gary Dunn back in the team, finishing 3rd in the 6.1 mile men’s race, in 26.38, followed by Dan Hodsworth, 8th in 38.07,  Bryan Miller 64th in 48.00 and Marc Davies 69th in 49.39.

On Sunday, it was a fine day for the Wistow 10k, a flat road race over a figure of eight course, with strong winds a regular factor.  Gary Holmes came 167th out of 190 in 63.04 and Ian Codling 176th in 64.42.

Conditions were warm, with winds on the tops and plenty of clart on the forest trails, for the recent Clay Bank West Fell Race, when Bryan Miller led club members home, 39th out of 92 in 42.28, with Hilary Coventry 51st in 46.37, Nicola Booth and Carol Morrison finishing together, 64th in 48.00, Hywel Smith 66th in 48.56,  Rebecca Burgess 71st in 50.38 and Alan Wikeley 84th in 58.33.  The Ladies’ Team won 2nd prize!

6 members were among the 222 finishers at the latest Fountains Abbey 5k Park Run at the weekend, Steven Scott coming 53rd in 23.16,  Brian Smith 74th in a new personal best 24.24,  Malcolm Aitken, also a new PB, 124th in 27.45,  Jane Cummins 151st in another new PB of 29.35 and Gillian Crane 196th in 33.37.

Hello club members and friends of the Thirsk 10 road race. We would just like to provide a brief update to inform everybody that for obvious reasons the Thirsk 10 race will not be held in March 2021 however, we intend to reassess the situation in the Spring with a view to holding the event later in the year subject to national and local restrictions in place at the time. We apologise for the disappointment this will undoubtably cause, however I am sure that everybody appreciates that the Covid 19 Pandemic is a fluid situation with rules and restrictions seemingly changing on a daily basis. We will provide a further update in once we have been able to consider matters. Assuring you of our best intentions at all times, keep running and stay safe. The Thirsk 10 Team.
