Loyalties Torn!

Another clash of events, largely because of a re-arranged cross country fixture, found loyalties torn between the club championship cross country at Acklam and the Glaisdale Fell Race.  Acklam was its usual muddy self, though weather conditions were ideal for running – calm and not too cold. Pat Kirby was once again first club finisher in the ladies’ race, 33rd in 30.11, with Carol Morrison 36th in 31.19, Christine Burn, in a three way tussle for the finish, 46th in 34.40, ahead of Claire Gillan, 47th in 34.45 and Faith Coy 48th in 34.47.
Geoff Bullock finished 2nd of the V65 men in 28.30.
The senior men, over a slightly more than 10k course, were led home by Stephan Tomaszewski, coming back into form after injury, 26th in 45.11, with Walter Busuttil 30th in 45.39,  Merv Burn 33rd in 46.05,  Rob Burn 35th in 46.22,  Rob Lickley 50th in 49.06,  Graham Robinson 59th in 50.23, Martyn Coy 63rd in 51.47,  Steve Scott 75th in 55.16 and Bryan Miller 77th in 56.46.
Six Harriers were at Glaisdale, where, once again, conditions were perfect for running, with traces of snow in places, and the statutory mud! Sarah Glover had a good run to come 76th out of the 132 entrants in a time of 84.10, ahead of Lorraine Hiles, 78th, and 2nd F45, in 84.12,  Nicola Booth 91st, and 2nd F50, in 88.15, Hilary Coventry 114th in 97.11,  Alan Wikeley 117th in 98.48 and Steve Booth 118th in 98.59.  The ladies are to be congratulated on winning the team prize, and by all accounts, coming home well laden with bottles of wine!
Ian and Marian Codling were at the rural and pleasant Norton 9 towards Doncaster, and Ian finished 496th in 96.10,  Marian 515th in 108.55.
Alan Harman, meanwhile, was at the other side of the country for the Haweswater Half Marathon, coming 295th out of 484 in 1.52.13.
Noel Clough was taking part in the Marvelo City Cyclo Cross at Huddersfield over a tough course around a disused warehouse!  The race had a continental flavour, with cowbells, beer and frites, and lasted about 20 minutes.  The top 50%  of riders went into a final, the course passing through the middle of the beer tent,(!), and Noel, having qualified for the final, finished a very good 3rd V40.

Entries are still being taken for the popular Thirsk 10 on March 24th, details of which can be found on the club’s web-site.
