Harriers Turn Out In Strength At Acklam

The NYSD cross country league continued at the weekend with race 4 at Acklam Grange School.  The lovely, interesting course was especially nice on a fine, if frosty and cold, day with conditions underfoot almost perfect for running.  18 Harriers turned out for what was the first race of the new Club Championship series, with Lorraine Hiles once again leading home the ladies over the 3.5 mile course to finish 18th in a time of 25.03.  Carolyn Morrison and Hilary Coventry had a ding dong battle throughout the race, with Carolyn just clinching it to come in 41st in 28.32 and Hilary 42nd in 28.37.  Pat Kirby was next, 48th, and 1st V3, in 29.28,  Christine Burn 56th in 32.10,  Lisa Brown, in her first ever cross country, 59th in 34.00, Cath Lumb 62nd in 34.16, Janet Balmain, another first timer, 63rd in 34.19 and Marian Codling 71st in 40.17.In the men’s race, over 10k, Phil Utley looked superb in finishing 12th in a time of 38.33 with Walter Busuttil 39th in 42.59,  Stephan Tomaszewski, getting back into racing form after a knee operation, 45th in 43.18,  Gavin Coventry 53rd in 43.46,  Merv Burn 60th in 44.47,  Rob Burn 80th in 47.28,  Geoff Bullock 94th in 49.53,  Paul Goacher 108th in 53.11 and Ian Codling 117th in 67.13.For the first time in a long time, we had 2 entrants in the Junior races.  Well done to Ryan Coventry for finishing 21st in the U11 Boys’ race and to Kerry Coventry, 18th in the U13 Girls’ race.  We hope they will become regular members of the team.
Noel Clough had his last race of the cyclo cross season, having a very early start to travel to Shrewsbury for the final race in the National Points Series.  He had another excellent race, on what began as a hard, frosty course but then turned into one which was greasy and sticky, to finish 3rd overall in the race and 3rd overall in the series, thus picking up a well deserved Bronze Medal, his second medal in 2 weeks!  Congratulations!

Hello club members and friends of the Thirsk 10 road race. We would just like to provide a brief update to inform everybody that for obvious reasons the Thirsk 10 race will not be held in March 2021 however, we intend to reassess the situation in the Spring with a view to holding the event later in the year subject to national and local restrictions in place at the time. We apologise for the disappointment this will undoubtably cause, however I am sure that everybody appreciates that the Covid 19 Pandemic is a fluid situation with rules and restrictions seemingly changing on a daily basis. We will provide a further update in once we have been able to consider matters. Assuring you of our best intentions at all times, keep running and stay safe. The Thirsk 10 Team.
