Cameron The Pick Of The Moors

More than a dozen members were involved in the hard Ampleforth 7 race recently around the beautiful grounds of Ampleforth Abbey.  There were hills aplenty but conditions underfoot were good and Cameron Choules had an excellent run to finish 7th out of the field of 85 in a time of 48.03.  Paul Atkinson put in another fine performance to come 11th in 50.32 with Stewart Mechie 14th in 52.48,  Rob Burn 16th in 53.16, Lorraine Hiles 23rd and 3rd lady overall in 54.43,  Joe Reynard, improving all the time, 38th in 59.17,  potential member, Carol Morrison, running unattached on this occasion, 47th in 62.49, Steve Billings 52nd in 63.01,  Fran Jeffery 62nd in 64.43,  Hilary Coventry 70th in 68.38,  Kaye Mechie, making a very rare appearance, 71st in 68.51  Christine Burn 74th in 71.28,  Ian Codling 76th in 74.53  and Marian Codling 85th in 88.01.
Race 2 of the NYSD Cross Country League took place at the weekend, at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough, and 5 Harriers made the long journey. Christine Burn was the sole lady representative, in her first ever cross country race, and finished a commendable 44th out of 57 in 32.53.   New member, Kevin Winfield, looks a useful acquisition, finishing 48th in 31.37, with Merv Burn 58th in 32.16,  Rob Burn 60th in 32.27 and Geoff Bullock 83rd in 35.36.
A little nearer home, Cameron Choules once again performed well to finish 9th out of 176 in the Pickering and Moors 10k over a rural trail race in a time of 39.30.  Jo Fambely came in 149th in 57.35 and Eileen Howell 164th in 62.29.
Alan Harman, meanwhile, competed in the Wistow 10 and had a good run to finish 96th out of 172 in a time of 81.28.
Stanley Park, Blackpool, was the venue for the 2 lap Autumn Breaker 10k run over a fairly level and scenic course, the race starting and finishing with circuits of the excellent running track.  Ian Codling came 116th in 59.59, just achieving his target of finishing under an hour, and Marian Codling was 143rd out of 151 in 69.31.
