Race Report 31/01/17

Runners were unanimous in their praise of the lovely 5k Trail Race at Preston Park on a frosty sunny morning.  The course, part of the Tees Trail Winter Series, passes through woodland and follows the banks of the Tees in places and conditions underfoot were reasonable for the 259 entrants.  Cameron Choules, in fine form just now, led club members home, coming 21st in 20.28, with Mike Lowther 43rd in 22.34, Lorraine Hiles 52nd in 23.29, Paul Atkinson 64th in 23.52, Andy Butcher 85th in 24.47, Peter Richardson 91st in 24.59, Marc Davies 99th in 25.21, Sonja van der Westhuisen 111th in 25.52, Steve Booth 130th in 26.58, in a sprint finish with Paul van der Westhuisen, 131st in 26.59, Nicola Booth 134th in 27.10, Abbie Waters, supported by her Dad and just speeding away from him at the finish, 172nd in 29.43, Stuart Waters 173rd in 29.44, Gillian Crane 221st in 33.34, Drikus van der Westhuisen 224th in 34.37, Bev Davies 230th in 35.38, Jane Cummins 236th in 36.28, Ian Codling 239th in 36.50, Liz Stephenson 252nd in 39.32 and Marian Codling 255th in 41.51.   Another busy Park Run weekend saw 6 Harriers among the 245 finishers at Fountains Abbey – numbers perhaps fewer than in recent weeks because of the rain before and after, but not during, the race.  The altered course, again significantly longer than the usual 5k seemed slightly less crowded than the previous week and Lorraine Hiles was among the earlier finishers, 37th in 22.57, Linda Bamforth 180th in 31.54, Gillian Crane 182nd in 32.09, Jane Cummins 211th in 34.59, Ian Codling 215th in 35.23 and Marian Codling 231st in 39.50.  Conditions were decidedly sticky at Northallerton but Ken Wood again ran well to come 2nd out of 54 in 21.25 with Paul Adams 40th in 32.36 and Emma Adams 47th in 35.14.  At Albert Park, Charlotte Wilton came 43rd, and 2nd female, out of the field of 277 in 20.51.  Peter Richardson, a Park Run Ambassador, for which congratulations and thanks, was 110th out of 290 at Stewart Park in 26.42.  Dave Baker and Rosie Gatenby were among the 259 runners at Harrogate, Dave finishing 82nd in 24.31 and Rosie 172nd in 29.10.  Brian Smith was able to achieve a PB time among the massive field of 508 at York coming 204th in 25.52.
