Race Report 19/12/17

Saturday morning’s weather was cold and frosty, leading to the cancellation of the Fountains Abbey Park Run because of underfoot conditions, and no Harrier did any Park Run on that day.  By Sunday, things had warmed up and rain and strong winds accompanied runners in the challenging and popular Loftus and Whitby Poultry Run over 8 miles.  This multi-terrain, hilly race, with about one third off road, attracts runners from a big area becuse all the prizes are dressed poultry!  It was still very cold, but many runners in Christmas fancy dress made for a cheerful atmosphere.  Rob Lickley was first Thirsk and Sowerby finisher, 71st out of 444 in 57.58, with Lorraine Hiles 98th in 60.37, David Read 174th in 66.52, Alan Simpson 257th in 73.45, Alan Harman 277th in 75.32, Ian Codling 432nd in 103.39 and Marian Codling 435th in 104.58.  Lorraine and Marian came away with age-group prizes!  Entries are open for the popular Thirsk 10, an altogether flatter affair on roads.  Full details are available on the club website.
