Race Report 17/10/17

It was the 10th running of the Shaun Lee Johnstone Memorial 10 Mile Multi – Terrain race, organised by the indefatiguable Ray Johnstone to raise funds for teenage brain tumour research, following the death from that disease of his son, Shaun, at the age of only16.  158 runners took on the tough challenge of a race which is generally fairly flat, with underfoot conditions testing because of long grass in places, and some rough trails.  It was a lovely morning, and Stephan Tomaszewski was first home of the 11 Harriers, 17th in 1.09.22, Mike Lowther, going well just now, 48th in 1.18.20, Jody Sygrove 51st in 1.18.48, Geoff Bullock 98th in 1.28.48, Tracey Lowther 141st in 1.49.08, along with Alison Butcher given the same time, Andy Butcher 143rd in 1.49.12, Gillian Crane 152nd, running with Linda Bamforth, and both running 10 miles for the first time, in 1.54.53, Ian Codling 157th in 2.14.27 and Marian Codling 158th in 2.26.03.  That was the penultimate race in the Club Championship series.

The NYSD cross country league had its first fixture, at Acklam, not well supported by TSH because of so many other club committments.  In the women’s race, Olivia Mulligan was 8th out of 88 in 23.05 and Pat Kirby 60th, and 1st F65, in 29.41.  Martyn Coy was the sole club entrant in the men’s race and finished 134th out of 183 in 48.29.

Members were at various Park Runs, with just 4 being among the field of 327 at Fountains Abbey.  Walter Busuttil came 29th in 21.05, Joanne Hunt 153rd in PB 27.29, Paul Adams 195th in 28.49 and Steve Isaac 276th in 34.32.  Charlotte Wilton, at Albert Park, came 24th out of 274, and 1st lady, in 20.50.   At Sheffield Hallam, Hayley Tyson was 162nd out of 668 in PB 23.51 and at the Catterick event, Joanne Richardson was 139th out of 152 in 37.27.  Martin and Jane Cummins tried out the Kirkcaldy event – a later start in Scotland, at 9.30am – with Martin finishing  54th out of 159 in 25.49 and Jane 150th in 38.10.  Rob and Christine Burn, holidaying in the US of A, found a Park Run at Crissy Fields, San Francisco, with Rob coming 19th out of 79 in 20.55, approaching his PB time, and Christine 61st in 29.56.
