Race Report 16/01/17

The North Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Championships were held at the weekend at Ripon Grammar School on a fine, cold morning with conditions good underfoot.  Laura Bosomworth was once again outstanding, finishing 3rd out of 13 in the Senior Girls’ race in 16.23 and thus qualifying to represent NY Schools at the All England Championships in Norwich in March.  Congratulations, Laura.  Two boys, Archie Whitfield and Josh Fothergill also had fine runs in the Inter Boys’ Race, with Archie coming 14th out of 38 in 18.58 and Josh not far behind, 16th in 18.58.  Very well done, all.

Conditions were quite different the next day for the NYSD Cross Country fixture at Ormesby Hall where mud was the order of the day, especially round the start and finish area, though weather conditions turned out well after a wet night!  A good section of the course was through a pleasant wooded area where it was much easier underfoot, and Lucy Verrill had another good race to come 38th out of 108 in 25.32, with Nicola Booth 58th in 27.54, Tracey Lowther 71st in 30.14, Alison Butcher 80th in 32.13, Christine Burn 84th, and 1st F60, in 33.38, Gillian Crane 90th in 34.30, Bev Davies 97th in 37.38 just pipping Tracy Hayden, 98th in 37.39, Liz Stephenson 103rd in 42.29 and Marian Codling 108th in 45.08.   Cameron Choules was first club finisher in the men’s race, 47th out of 143 in 40.43.  Stephan Tomaszewski was 59th in 42.18, Rob Burn 88th in 45.30, Paul Atkinson 92nd in 46.21, Martyn Coy 94th in 46.23, Michael Lowther 102nd in 47.40, David Read 110th in 48.53, Marc Davies 111th in 49.06, Graham Robinson 119th in 50.05, Andy Butcher 128th in 52.31, Craig Ivey 135th in 56.18, Steven Booth 136th in 56.37 and Duncan Fothergill 139th in 60.39.  The V65+ men ran in the shorter race and Ian Crane took 26.24, Ian Codling 38.46.  Altogether, 25 members were involved in this second race in the Club Championship series.
