Race Report 14/02/2017

Following a wet, dank week, it was no surprise that two mainly off-road races were very, very muddy underfoot!  The Muddy Boots 10k lived up to its name, and this course, tough at the best of times, was muddier than usual, though some tarmac sections gave a bit of relief.  On a very cold morning, where the rain just about held off, Alan Simpson finished 141st out of about 420 in 51.51, Marc Davies 153rd in 52.09, Steven Scott 164th in 52.40, Chris Wordsworth 257th in 58.42, Liz Wordsworth 287th in 61.16, Bev Davies 387th in 75.03 and Liz Stephenson 415th in 83.33.  A goody bag which included some Wensleydale cheese helped to warm the cockles at the end!

The 5 mile Absent Friends race at Cowpen Bewley Country Park was, if anything, even muddier (and there was no tarmac relief) as well as having a slippery steep hill which had to be climbed and descended.  Andy Butcher came 62nd out of 134 in 43.36, Gillian Crane 116th in 56.26 and Ian Codling 130th in 66.25.

The Fountains Abbey Park Run had plenty of water on its surface, though no mud, and the morning was very cold.  260 runners turned out, with Cameron Choules going superbly to finish 4th in 19.59, Phillip Craig, working hard in his London Marathon training and having improved so much, 79th in PB 25.34, Ian Crane 81st in 25.48, Linda Bamforth – congratulations to her on her 50th Park Run – 184th in 31.33, Gillian Crane 185th in 31.37, just ahead of Paul Adams, 186th in 31.38, Tracy Hayden 214th in 33.51, Emma Adams 219th in 34.06, Ian Codling 228th in 35.19, Judith van den Berg 244th in PB 37.48 and Marian Codling 250th in 39.31.

Archie Whitehead had a storming run to finish 1st at Northallerton out of 44 in 21.39, Duncan Fothergill 19th in 27.40, Andy Butcher 22nd in 27.50, Ken Evitt 25th in 28.49 and Drikus van der Westhuisen 40th in 34.55.

Charlotte Wilton was once again at Albert Park among the 301 finishers and came 41st in 20.47, with Graham Robinson 109th in 24.01.

At Dalby Forest, Rob Burn was a very good 14th out of 105 in 21.56, Christine Burn 76th in 30.24.  Trish Radford had an away day at Rushmere coming 51st out of 98 in 30.24.  Runners of all ages and abilities are welcome at this friendly club.  Whether you are an experienced runner or have never run before, do come along and give us a try.
