Race Report 13/06/17

The club were host to the recent Ossy Oiks Fell Race, Race 2 in the Dave Parry Summer Series of Fell Races on a perfect evening for running.  As usual, the first 2 miles uphill sorted runners out, and conditions underfoot were mostly good in spite of recent rain.  The beck had more water in it as a result, catching a few people out in the crossing, and the near vertical descent from the top of Beacon Hill on the return is a game changer for some, but all runners eventually returned safely!  Congratulations and thanks to Bryan Miller and his team of helpers for a superb race.  Tom Levi was first club finisher, 31st in 50.00, David Fawkes 45th in 51.08, Charlotte Wilton 59th, and 1st F40, in 55.20, Alan Simpson 74th in 60.25, Helen Ashworth 78th, and 2nd F50, in 61.13, Fran Jeffery 83rd in 63.05,  closely followed by Carol Morrison 85th in 63.08, Sonja van der Westhuisen 89th in 66.08, Nicola Booth 95th in 68.58, Pat Kirby 96th, and 1st F65 in 69.07, Faith Coy 101st in 79.27, Alan Wikeley 109th, and 2nd M70, in 87.30, with Tracy Hayden, in her first fell race, and having a few navigational problems and coming in at the end. The best ladies’ team finished in 2nd place.

In the latest race in the New Marske Harriers series, the fast, flat Everyone Active 10k at New Marske, Ian Codling came 192nd in 72.37 and Marian Codling 195th in 79.10.   6 Members were at this week’s Fountains Abbey Park Run on a wet morning, Lorraine Hiles coming 42nd out of 297 in 23.08, Andy Butcher 88th in 25.38, Alison Butcher 118th in 27.13, a fantastic PB by almost a minute, Paul Adams 170th in 29.15, Linda Bamforth 173rd in 29.23 and Tracy Hayden 250th in 33.20.   Peter Richardson was at the Riverside, Durham, event, finishing 82nd out of 252 in 24.13.
